SCANDALS TRAIL THE PRETTIEST GIRL IN NIGERIA PAGEANT

The Prettiest Girl Nigeria pageant is one of the new breeds of pageants in the country...well, the genesis of this pageant is one that i will talk about in another day.

The pageant currenly under the leadership of Femi Ayinuola has been in existence for 4years.

According to recent confirmed stories from some of the contestants of the last edition of the event, there has been a lot of dIscrepancies; this goes a long way in butressing the stories from the other two previous edition.

Its a known fact that the only edition of this event which was most successful and also fair was the first edition...(which of course you will know why, by the time i tell you folks the genesis)

According to the contestants, their fear started from when they noticed that none of the past winners of the pageant visited all through their stay in camp.

Another worry was the daily introduction of the contestants to various men who throng the camp venue of the pageant.

The height of the anxieties was only to be fully delivered when they were attacked by armed robbers in the hotel where they were lodged. The men of the ‘under world’ carted away their personal effects including phones, money, jewellery, and other valuable items.

And then, the grand finale was just it, the girls realised that the whole thing might have been a scam.a facade.

The pageant which was earlier billed to hold at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos was suddenly changed on the day of the competition.

The president of the pageant company, Femi, came announcing to the contestants to call their family, friends and loved ones about the change of venue from the former to Banilux Events Place, Yaba. His reason according to the change was because a higher bidder for their earlier venue(Eko Hotel & Suites) has deprived them of using that location for the event hence thye new venue, Banilux...(hmnnn!)

According to the contestants and guests, the whole facade had an already a predetermined winner. No winner was announced on stage. When the 2nd runner up was announced, there was a reaction from the guests. And immediately the 1st runner up was called, the crowd got angry which. This even made a judge to go on stage to ask why the result was changed.

The act led to a fight, resulting in a big scuffle, bottles were flying carelessely mid-air.

Femi later sent text messages to the girls asking them to call him bvack as he was willing to crown them either on or off stage. As he owns the event and has the right to do what so ever pleases him!...(chei!)

When Femi was contacted as to why the outgoing queen was not present, his reason was that the parent of the last winner were not in support of her reign and hence made it difficult for her to carry out her projects and functions.

‘its not our making” was all he could offer On the armed robbers incidence; and about the change of venue on the day of the compertition, he said, as part of the prettiest girl nigeria ethos, they dont reveal the event venue till a day or even on the event day.(OMG!)

Phewww...well, there you have it folks...my reason for this article is not far fetched, except that i have been involved in pageants for over 5years and it breaks my heart to see things like this happen to young girls who put their lives and hopes, dreams as well as future in the hands of people who knows nothing about what it means to even have a ‘dream’. The pageant industry is fast growing, fasting catching up with the big pageant brands around the world, but how do we tell the world we are ready to host other nations if we can not put our house in order to even host one for our own people?

i wonder why in Nigeria, we dont even have a pageant recognised body or agency that can approve pageant brandS. No form of of organised society or union for producers and directors, hmnnn...no form of 'federally' sanctioned agency that sees to the welfare of pageant organisers...well, we will get there, just one day, we will get there, we surely will get there; but until then, i encourage all young ladies out there, pleasssse look, ask questions carefully before you enter for any pageant. Find out the background of the organisers, who can make case for them, whats their level of pedigree and intergrity? which other brands are involved with them as partners/sponsors? ENSURE that without any reasonable doubts, they are of good standing in the pageant industry here in Nigeria...and hey, even if you live outside Nigeria, same applies.

well, personally, i will be willing to be of help in anyway as concerning pageants in Nigeria....GOOD LUCK!
