THE FUTURE AWARDS SCHOOL SEMINARS KICK OFF!
… Cobhams, Emeka Okereke, others to visit King’s College next

Keeping to its promise to take its message of change and inspiration to as many young people around the country as possible, The Future Awards has begun its Post-Award Seminars, where it takes winners of the Awards to schools across the country to engage directly with the youth.

“The Future Awards is an all-encompassing youth experience – what we are about is using this project to let as many young Nigerians as possible know that change is possible in Nigeria – and the way we have chosen to do this is to use young role models to show other youths that, no matter how difficult Nigeria is, you can make a difference,” the Operations Director, Adebola Williams, said.

The seminars kicked off in the Oshodi/Isolo area of Lagos and held at the Binta International School, with four schools in attendance – Omatseye Secondary School, Sound Foundation Secondary School, Beulah International School and the host school. It held on Thursday the 5th of March 2009.

The winners at that seminar were Mosunmola Cynthia Umoru, the under-30 female farmer who won for Business Owner of the Year, and Bamidele Odufuye, technology entrepreneur who won for Best Use of Technology. Bamidele, amongst other things worked with Zend-PHP’s phone development team from Japan last year to build the 3 Nigerian Languages on the phone; whilst Mosun runs a farm produce company that supplies to top of the range Nigerian organizations including the Lagos Country Club, Shoprite amongst others. In 2008, she was selected as one of the first 25 women worldwide priviledged female entrepreneurs on the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Enterprise Scholarship.

It would be recalled that at The Future Awards 2009, there was the Aspire Viewing Center where selected secondary school students from across the country were able to watch the event live upstairs at the Shell Hall Muson Center and also to interact with the guests.

The post-award seminars now move to Kings College on the Lagos Island, where winners like Cobhams Asuquo (Music Producer of the Year), Paris-based Emeka Okereke (Artist of the Year) will be engaging more young Nigerians.
