THE FINAL SLAB, FUNMI IYANDA+THE ENTREPRENUER+ RMD

hmnn...ok am sure that today must have been interesting, fun, hectic, surprise full...what else can i qualify it? well for me thats how it has been but through it all, one thing i have made up my mind about is to always be on the winning side, sometimes i wonder why people build their success or should i say ability to succeed around poeple, yea you can say of course no man is an island and ones success is tied to the other, i know that and trust me, my pastor has said it more than a thousand times but also, you need to make up your mind about your desire and time of success, if not, you just might not know when the time comes and with it, surely the opportunity.
i actually spent more than 8 hours of my whole day jumping from one bike to the other and from one taxi to the other, trying to make sure that all that i need to do, i do it before travelling, ok, well i am supposed to leave Nigeria tomorrow but my younger, (he seem to be on my case right now) has decided that he also wants to go, like i have a choice to tell him no, actually, we are supposedf to start some projects there so, am Ghana bound on Friday night latest.
well like i promised, i will bring you the full details of the Ghana Music Awards and every other juicy detail that i see...also, am more than looking forward to VAN VICKER's interview, anyhow, and no matter what, you will surely get it i can promise you that.

Funmi moves upscale with her favorites

For multi-talented broadcaster and host of popular TV talkshow, New Dawn with Funmi, Funmi Iyanda, it is time to move upscale. After almost a decade of running New Dawn on NTA network, this month, delectable Funmi will hit the airwaves with a new talkshow Funmi's Favorites, a one-hour programme that will run every week for 26 weeks on national television in Nigeria. Funmi’s Favorites is coming at a time when Funmi is being awarded a Fellowship by the prestigious Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellowship. The award would qualify her to join the select band of young leaders who form the Archbishop Tutu Fellowship network.

To ensure wider coverage, Funmi Favorites will run on several TV stations including STV, BRTV (Borno), RIMATV (Sokoto), Kano TV, PRTV, ITV Abuja, ESBS, RSTV, Delta TV, BCOS and ODTV with a plan to cater for Nigerians in the Diaspora through the cable.

I CAME ACROSS THIS PIECE ON ONE OF MY FAVOURITE AND NIGERIA'S FINEST ACTOR AND PRESENTLY A SPECIAL ADVISER AND I THOUGHT ITS VERY INTERESTING...WHAT DO YOU THINK???

I’m Off To A New Level

Richard Mofe-Damijo tells talks about his acting career and his present assignment as Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Entertainment and Talent Development

Q: What does your job as Special Adviser entail?

A: The job is to advise the governor on talent and entertainment matters. But also because I am coming from a performing background, I am involved because I have also been in the development of the youth because I am somebody who had gone through that phase. I’m involved in the identification, growth and development of these talents. So my job is just to see how we can generate work for talented people.

Q: Acting, Law, which is your first love?

A: Naturally, theatre is my first love. I just have a natural affinity towards spectacle. The fact that I also ended up being a Public Relations and events person is all part of my love for spectacle. But I just love to put events together. I’ve put some of the most remarkable events in this country together, either directly or as a third person. If you see any of the concerts of Made In Warri, they will tell you that if we promised to start by 2am or 2pm, we will. This is the kind of the discipline that theatre gave me.

Q: How challenging is your present job?

A: To whom much is given, much is expected. I believe that everything that one achieves in life comes with a certain responsibility. Even before I became a public servant, I didn’t have the liberty to do things and get away with them like the regular person will do. So it’s challenging in that sense. Now, you are under the scrutiny of everybody. Automatically too, I am also directly responsible to not just the entertainment constituency, but almost every young person in Delta State wants to be able to stop me and talk to me. I need to be able to pay for everybody’s album. Every young person in Delta State wants me to pay for their album, launch their acting career, launch their comedy career and all that is a lot of responsibility. But I think the political will is a reflection of whom my boss is. The fact that he created the office at all is an indication that he wants to affect the lives of people in Delta State, giving them more meaningful lifestyle.

Q: What else would you have loved to become other than an actor?

A: I love art. If I was not an actor, I would probably be a musician or a writer. I will still dwell within the artistic circle. Law, for me, is like a technical performance. I will love to handle a case someday. I love intellectual battles as well and all these are closely tied.

Q: You always generate excitement among your fans. How do you cope with such excitement?

A: It takes the good and the bad. You don’t consider it as embarrassment. Some of the fans have not seen a celebrity they know on TV, when they see him in real life, they don’t know how to handle that kind of situation. Some of them get clumsy. Sometimes some of them are aggressive towards you. But some actually reverse their attitude. They get cold and want to snub you and all that. But you take it all in your stride. For me, I consider it humbling that you walk into a place and people recognise you and even tend to treat you differently.

Q: What are the challenges you face as an actor?

A: Yeah, most times the atmosphere under which we work is despicable. Sometimes we are competing with generators. You only need to look at Nollywood and you will find out that most of us are pure magicians. If you read that people made movies with N1 million or N2 million in those days, it’s true. That is to tell you how much zeal the average player has and just wanted to prove a point. So now that we are where we are, we need to now pause and see how a better environment can be created so that the ones coming behind will not necessarily go through what we went through.

Q: Which of your movies actually brought out your best?

A: I don’t know. I think that would be for the people to judge. There are people who love different things that I have done. Violated is the landmark movie in Nigeria because it became a romantic classic. It became the benchmark for romantic movies. There are people who see me today and still quote lines from Violated. There are people who see me and tell me that Out of Bounds and The Price were very important movies. And I agree. There are pastors who still tell me it was their life story that I told. So people have different reactions. When I did The Mayor, which was what gave me the AMAA awards for best actor, there were people who thought it was the best movie. So every movie has its peculiar features.
