Aso-Ebi Syndrome. Aso-ebi (as it is popularly known and called) is a culture that has come to stay in this part of the world. The name “Aso-Ebi” is a Yoruba (the dialect of the western part of Nigeria) word and the concept or idea of “aso-ebi” was made popular by the tribe.
“Aso-Ebi” simply means a GROUP OUTFIT. It depicts a group of people, family members, friends, society or association, e.t.c. wearing outfits made from the same fabric/textile specifically bought for an occasion. It is very similar to a uniform but it defers because it is worn for uniformity and adds glamour to an occasion. The numerical strength of the group wearing it varies but ranges from 5 persons to as much as 100 and even much more in some instance. Groups outfit here-in after called “aso-ebi” is something that adds glamour and colour to any occasion.
“Aso-Ebi” is worn at functions such as Weddings, Burial, Birthdays, House-warming and other celebration occasions. “Aso-Ebi” is taken from a wide range of fabrics/textiles like lace fabrics, “Aso-Ebi”, Damask, Ankara, Head ties, and even Hats. For weddings in particular, this uniformly called “aso-ebi” has become norm. Taking “aso-ebi” for wedding involves a whole lot of details and steps which if carefully taken will enrich the wedding ceremony.
The bug of the uniformity also known as aso-ebi that has been biting women is still biting even sronger and harder. You think the idea is coming down, you will be surprised to see the stylish ways these aso-ebi are worn especially by the women folk.
It has come to stay in the sense that at the obscure ceremony, uniformity surrounds the arena. Wearers tells you ;that is the only way you can belong and associate with the group. Some even have a funny idea, so you can mingle very well and receive all the souveniers.

These aso-ebi has become so compulsory that any one who wants to celebrate would want to beat the set records of a former party. They look for rich and beautiful ankara that would remain the talk of the town.
When these women step out in their aso-ebi with well made-up faces, matching accessories of various designs and different fragrances, you cannot but admire the beauty, elegance and aesthesy. So follow the trend and join in the aso-ebi bug and get noticed at that event.
Aso ebi type can be lace fabric with headties, lace fabrics with damask, and lace fabrics with aso-oke, aso oke only or head tie only. It can also be Ankara.
Hey...so, there you have it folks...But again...must we all wear the same uniform like secondary school students just to show solidarity or even in the more pathetic situation, qualify to receive souvenirs at these functions???
