18 July - International Mandela Day+Jennifer Koranteng Crowned Miss Universe Ghana+Djinee's Album Listening Party Pictures

A mention of his name is like a big wave to the history of the the world, and as his birthday approaches it is already guaranteed that a vast amount of celebrations will take place all accross the world, as this year marks the launch of the “International Mandela Day” which will be held on his birthday, July 18.

As the legend turns 91 a lot of celebrities are preparing for the big day and its events, and one of the big event that will be taking place on that day is the “Tribute to Mandela” dinner which is scheduled to take place at the Madison Sqaure Gardens, New York.

Where Queen Latifah, Josh Groban, The Soweto Gospel Choir, Aretha Franklin, Dave Stewart, Wyclef Jean and Jesse McCartney are some of the entertainers scheduled to perform. Long live Madiba!

Jennifer Koranteng Crowned Miss Universe Ghana Jennifer Victoria Koranteng, a 22 year old Psychology Major graduate of the University of Ghana, has been selected as Miss Universe Ghana 2009 in a closed-pageant held at the La Palm Royal Hotel in Accra. The beautiful and intelligent young lady will represent Ghana at the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant to be held in the beautiful Paradise Island in the Bahamas, on August 23 2009.

After several rounds of tests on individual presentation, personality, physical fitness, composure and grace, as well as general intelligence, Jennifer came out on top, beating Suzanna Naa Amuah Alberto Darko and Daphne Grace Allotey to 2nd runner-up and 1st runner-up positions respectively. The other contestants were Angela Effum and Matilda Hammond.

Jennifer, who placed second in the Miss Ghana 2006 contest, has also modeled a bit in Ghana and so she isn’t new to the world of beauty and glam. The excited winner says she would love to use her voice and new status to support the needy in society and to spell out the importance of education particularly for the girl-child. “I’m expecting to put Ghana on the map and to do very well. So people would know that Ghana is not only a land of gold and timber but also a land of great beauties”, comments Jennifer.

The producers of the Miss Universe Ghana stated, “After weeks of scouting by our scouting and Public Relations professionals from Jon Williams, we are excited to present a remarkable Ghanaian woman, who we are confident, will make a bold statement for Ghana at the international event.
