BARRACK OBAMA' INNAUGRATION + FUTURE AWARDS IN PICTURES

Until today, I had only known two kinds of presidents, those who I really didn't like and those who I tolerated. Obama is something different, a president who I actually believe in...

The pictures from Washington DC are hypnotic. The excitement even on this side of the Atlantic is contagious. I know that my friends are putting together an exclusive party...to celebrate the inauguration. Others have told their young children to watch the great moment in the hope that they can remember it in 70 years or so when most of us will be gone. In the club where I had lunch earlier a notice in the hall said: "A large screen television has been moved into the outer morning room so that customers can watch the inauguration ofPresident Obama."

One of the greatest nation's on earth is in the process of demonstrating once again its extraordinary capacity for regeneration, renewal and reinvention. Obama is not my ideological cup of tea, scratch the surface and he's at core a leftie. But beyond ideology what a breath of fresh air he is right now.

Is the task he faces daunting? Of course. Is success guaranteed? Of course not. That shouldn't stop us enjoying today and recognising that it might not be the total disaster predicted by some. Goodness, he might turn out to be good at the job. Let's see.
Two further thoughts:

First, again America is proving the regenerative power of democracy. Do not listen to those who say that great country is finished - it is still the global centre of gravity. Yes, we tuned in in our millions to watch the rather sinister opening ceremony of the Olympics in China. But if you want something life affirming rooted in a belief in human dignity, give me America and an event such as the inauguration every time.

Second, the crisis we face is as much a psychological phenomenon as it is purely economic. We have lost basic confidence and faith in our powers of inventiveness and ingenuity. We in the West are in a hole and he wants to have a go at getting us out. Unless you have a better idea, it's probably worth letting him try.

Ok, everyone on FACEBOOK seem to be screaming OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA!...So i guess i can as well scream same here OBAMAAAAAAAA! rIGHT...

Hmnn, what can i say...its really very true that for every 18+ that decides to run away from the country, there is certainly double that number that stays behind to make our country a better place...I really feel so proud o be a young person at this time of my life and residing in a country like Naij.
Ok, folks, thats all for today...Meanwhile, am yet to get over the feelings of the success of Obama's innaugration...guess it some party for some of us...am doing some little party with a couple of friends...hey, if you happen to be in the neigbourhood, holla me and ou could join us for a time of your life.
