PRESS RELEASE: W.A.R. 'In Nigeria'

PRESS RELEASE

RUBIES INK PARTNERS ACADA, SET TO WAGE WAR ON RAPE

"Walk Against Rape" campaign is a special demonstration and initiative of RUBIES INK in partnership with ACADA MAGAZINE. The idea is borne out of the desire to create ample awareness to the alarming rate at which RAPE cases is rising in Nigeria. According to the project coordinator / CEO of Rubies Ink, Esther Enitan Ijewere, “we conceive the idea of Celebrities Walk Against Rape; bringing Nigerian Actors, Actresses, Sport Men, Media Practitioners, Musicians, DJs and Comedians together to lend a voice to sexually abused women, young girls and children in our society, taking them from a stage of self denial to self determination, self defeatism and under-achievement to self esteem and self achievement and showing their support to the course of bringing an abrupt end to RAPE in Nigeria where the number of rape cases is on the increase”. She further stated, “ we chose to use Entertainment/Showbiz Starsand Icons because they wield so much social power and they are prime influencers of lifestyle and they need to be sustained as behavioral and attitudinal change agents in the society, teachers of the right principles (such as W.A.R.) for self accomplishment and advocates of good behavior”. And according to the project media/publicity coordinator, Biodun Caston-Dada, “Our VISION is to reduce the soaring rate of sexual abuse and rape in our society, using entertainment stars as mentors/advocates and our MISSION is to use “Walk Against Rape” as a tool to inform the society about the soaring scourge of sexual abuse especially as it relates to young girls and women in general”.

W.A.R. will also be used to encourage rape victims to speak out whenever they are abused instead of lying under the influnce of various threat perpetrators usually used in silencing their victims. And will also be used to campaign against stigmatization that are most times been experience by rape victims.

In due course, various walks involving students, professionals and artisans will be staged till we achieve an appreciable success and reduction in the cases of rape in our country.

The organizers are appealing to all Nigerians to come out on Friday March 13th, 2010 to be part of this demonstration. The convergence point will be at the Police College, GRA-Ikeja, Lagos and participants are exepected to get to the venue by 7am.
