SWE BAR HOSTS RITA DOMINIC + MTN GHANA FINEST ICON AWARDS

O! its a monday! well, it started out all wet but surely, a man must do what he got to do, my manners, did i even say hi when i got here? Guess not, well you wont blame a man who has his hands filled and mind trying to rack a thousand things at the same time will u? any wayz, hi folks, its a bright and beautiful week and personally, am just trying to get the bearing right and put things in perspective so i wont spend too much time but one thing i must not leave here without letting you guys on, Nollywood diva and fashion sophisticate, Miss Rita Dominic would be the centre attraction at a presentation in her honour slated for A-list celebrity hangout, Swe Bar, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday 11 October 2008. Top paparazzi, journalists and movie practitioners are expected to be part of the presentation.
Rita Dominic was adjudged the best dressed Nollywood actress following massive reactions and a poll conducted by Gistmaster, Nigeria’s foremost daily celebrity news/photos online tabloid. According to ace reporter and facilitators of the poll, Nigerians from different parts of the world tapped into the global opportunities of the internet to vote for their favorite stars and at the end of the poll spanning about 3 three months ( starting in June), Rita Dominic came tops with the highest vote, closely followed by Genevieve Nnaji, With thousands of comments, text messages and phone calls from lovers of the movie industry.
Apart from Swe Bar, the classy hangout for top celebrities, top make up artist, Orekelewa, a leading make up product owned by Tara Fela Durotoye and SHARE by Tosyn Bucknor are also co-sponsors of the event. Tara is a role model in Nigeria's beauty industry. She has done bridal make up for Nigeria's richest families.Right now, her fast moving make up line has provided employment opportunities to thousands of undergraduates and young school leavers.
A model in the United States of America has also sent us beautiful clothes as part of goodies meant for the winner.
Overwhelmed by the massive reactions from Nigerians over the world, Niyi says many apart from the interesting comments, It was a real eye opener to the value glamour play in the acting business.

Apart from the votes, the organisers took a step ahead by consulting with about 40 journalists and celebrities and at the end; Rita also emerged as the first. On and off screen, Rita continues to be a pacesetter in her well turned out fabric.

In her comment, Estella, a top fashion designer based in the united states of America stated, “As a Fashion Designer, I give her (Rita) the thumbs! She dresses good. Nothing like what everyone else is wearing...she has her own style and not afraid to experiment.... Am looking forward to having her in one of my haute couture designs soon”

Mia
a blogger commented thus “Rita, Omotola, Genevieve and Stephanie all look good for the most part. They all have their moments, but at the least they always look CLEAN, APPRORIATE, and PRESENTABLE. Let’s not forget that all four are in good shape (though in different sizes).
“Omotola, after four kids looks AMAZING! Stephanie always knows what looks good on her. Genevieve keeps it together and could loosen up sometimes but she is definitely a beautiful girl. And my favorite Rita ALWAYS keeps it NEAT and SIMPLE! From her hair to her makeup, she shows up to every event looking CLASSY!”
Another person wrote “RITAAAAAAAAAAAAAA all the way men. You could accuse her of anything, but in my book she could never be guilty of not dressing right and representing not just herself but Naija chicks well...she’s my girl any day”

Lesson-Dressing is not how much it cost you to buy your Tommy Hilfiger, Prada or any label but wearing the right thing at the right time. We have taken photos of most red carpet events in Nigeria and found out that in the process of imitating Hollywood stars, our celebrities often make some obvious mistakes.for instance "don't wear evening gown to a boat cruise!"

Ok, so thats it for today, For me, Rita rocks my boat anyday, anytime. she sure knows how to strike that cord and send the men folk thirsty...of course not for a bottle of Coke, silly!(ok, now thats in good faith)

whatcan i say, make plans to attend this all important event, remember, its strictly by invite so if you aint able to get an invite, not to worry, yours trully will bring you al the gists and pics in due time.

10. Genevieve Nnaji

Nigeria
Genevieve is Nollywood's brightest star. She has appeared in countless movies and is also a singer and spokesmodel. She is the face for Lux soap. She released an album titled No More. Genevieve says music was her first love even before acting but it is definately acting that has made her the star she is today. She has played everything from a love interest to a 'shoot em up' chick. Some call her Sharon Stone. We call her sexy.

9. Alek Wek

Sudan
Her skin has been kissed by the sun. She is known on a first name basis all over the world. She single handedly changed the way beauty is viewed when she stepped on the fashion scene a decade ago. We love her because she could have paid big money to change her looks once she made it big and she didn't. She is proud of looking like a Dinka girl. She is proud to be African and to look African and challenges whoever doesn't accept it to keep it moving. Her confidence makes her one very sexy lady.

8.Thandie Newton
Zimbabwe

Thandie proves herself as a contender for an Oscar in every role she takes. It was hard for people to see someone so beautiful play the role she played in the movie Beloved but she did it. She went toe to toe with Oprah Winfrey and Kimberly Elise and came out unscathed. Tom Cruise and Will Smith are just two of her leading men. She went there in Crash and won awards for it. Is there anything she can't do? She makes raising her two children and looking like that very easy. Thandie is one sexy Mama.

7. Miriam Chemoss

Kenya
She is more than a triple threat. This beautiful African Queen is a singer/dancer, model, and a full time actress. She has appeared on the CBS show District and has set her sights on Hollywood. Miriam developed her performance skills as a member of The Mavalletes Revue. She then joined the legandary Soukous Stars Band and held her own as the sole female in the band. Miriam released a new single Rudi this year.

6. Angel Melaku
Ethiopia
She appeared on the cover of Black Men magazine with the words "Angel the New It Girl for 07". She is the video vixen for 2007. She currently stars with Kanye West and T-Pain in the video for Good Life. She has also appeared in videos for Trey Songz, Lloyd Banks, Busta Rhymes, Young Buck, and Young Jeezy. She has set her sights on Hollywood and vows that she won't rest till she gets there!

5. Honorine Uwera

Her lips alone give Angelina Jolie a run for her money. This Rwandan beauty immigrated to Canada in the late 90's. A modeling scout found her and the rest as they say is history. She has graced the runway for Issey Miyake, Emanuel Ungaro, Baby Phat, Richard Chai, Ruffian, Vivienne Westwood and Antonio Marras. She was featured in the Roca Wear Spring 2005 campaign with Naomi Campbell and Karolina Kurkova.

4. flavania Matata

Tanzania This beauty queen represented her country Tanzania at this year's Miss Universe and she was a top contender. We loved her sass and the fact that she didn't put a wig of long flowing hair on top of her bald head. She looked beautiful bald and she stood out. When asked what the judges should know about her she replied, "I am an electrical technician by profession as well as a top model in my country. I never let anyone define me neither by hair nor clothing as I believe God made me perfect as a pure, natural African woman." Amen to that!

3. Rhian Benson
Ghana

Rhian released her debut album Gold Coast in 2003 to critical acclaim. She won a MOBO award. Her passion for music is in her blood - her grandfather led an accclaimed big band in the 50's and 60's in Ghana. Rhian wrote her first song at age 9. She has the brains to go with her beauty - she was at Harvard when her mother got seriously ill. She left Harvard to care for her mother. Rhian is gearing up for her sophmore release.

2. Tiguida
Mali

This 21 year old beauty from Mali is a rising Model on the French Fashion scene. She has done several photoshoots for Parisians magazines and numerous fashions parades for well renowned names like Elit, Imane Ayissi and L'Oreal. The limitations on black models in France have made her travel to Africa, Italy, and the U.S.A for work.

1.Imam Somalia... Iman proves that sexy doesn't have to stop. She looks good next to very young girls. She paved the way for all the African models doing big things right now. Let's never forget that. She's been on the covers of Black Enterprise, Ebony, and Vanity Fair lately. Her cosmetics line has ethnic women all over the world looking good. If only we could all look this sexy in years to come!

Right folks, thats it...see you guys next week, till then, keep living the best of you and living it consistently, remember to give a meaning to someone's life either by a smile or a simple gift.

Cheers!

Anyway, whats been happening to you folks, am really eager to know what you guys have been up to so if anybody has anything that he or she thinks is worth celebrating, please, kindly feel free to let us all here share the joy of achievement with you.

Anyway, here are some few deatils that is worth knowing...

If there is one thing the African entertainment industry has proven, is that it is in tune with what’s going on. It continuously steps up its game and strives even harder to entertain.

The industry itself might not be the leading trend setter but it knows just how to follow the trend. This includes the production of many remakes of American number one shows including Big Brother, Survivor and Idols to Africa.
Adding to the African versions of American shows is ” So You Think You Can Dance” South Africa. Recently launched, it has generated the highest television ratings with critics giving it a whole lot of love. The show has also been predicted to become one of the longest running shows in SA. I myself must say I’m excited about the show because there’s no question that its going to be hot, assuming they don’t Americanize the show too much but strive to incorporate the African dance culture somehow, in order to set a standard of they own.
ok guys, see you guys soon, this time around i mean it, sooner than you think...yea

cheers
